SAE Ground Vehicle Standards

(J-Reports)

SAE ground vehicle standards such as J1772 and J1939 are internationally recognized for the critical role they play in design, testing, and procurement activities for automotive manufacturers and suppliers around the world.

Technical standards are best practices, lessons learned, and the latest research. They communize practices, processes, and products throughout the ground vehicle industry. And while standards are the practices of today, they are critical to the advancement of technology tomorrow.

Because industry can rely on standards for globally harmonized solutions to common issues—benefiting from reduced duplication of efforts; effective specification and lower procurement costs; consistent product quality and regulatory compliance; and interoperability and expanded market potential—companies and their employees can devote more time and resources to advance their proprietary technology.

SAE International regularly publishes a list of new and revised ground vehicle standards. The SAE International standards classification system provides a detailed explanation of the status categories that are applied to each published standard. Also, our Standards Development brochure provides more in-depth information about the benefits SAE Standards bring to the ground vehicle industry.
